Day 5 2nd Safari Day......50 Shades of Elephants

First, a follow up to the dead giraffe from yesterday.  We went by there to check on the carcass and see how Kenya's Circle of Life rotates.  Well, we discovered it rotates pretty fast.  The entire giraffe was gone !!  All 3,000 pounds of it.  No trace, bones, muscle, or anything.  Totally eaten or hauled off into the bush.  Life does go on in the Maasai Mara.

Today we left the clinic at 6:30am hoping to see some early, daybreak activity.  We weren't disappointed.  We spotted a leopard relaxing in a tree just inside the park boundaries.  He probably slept there all night and would be hunting soon.

Now, waiting for his morning coffee.

This if for perspective,  Look for his tail.

Three huge storks, wingspan is 6- 8 feet

This guy is about as big as a basketball, he better stay of
the roads, he is very well camouflaged.....and slow.

These are impala.  You can't see it but on there rear ends
the markings look like an "M".  William says that stands for
McDonald's.  You guessed it, Fast-food.

This cheetah was flying solo.  Just relaxing.

The other highlight of the day was the elephants.  We guess around 50.  We drove quite a while looking and finding none, then they were everwhere, for miles.  Big one, small ones, all eating the great green grass found during the spring.  William said that elephants spend all their waking hours eating.  We believe him.

Being a good mom, junior wanted a snack.
The roads in the Maasai Mara are bumpy and goaty......
